Norfort’s Competitive Team Year End brought an amazing show to our families, where every athlete was not only able to demonstrate new skills but their coach/team efforts on providing us…
Northern Zones/Trails to Westerns
Anna Inkster, Ava-Lee MaClean, Avery McCoy and Ashley Ponak started off Saturday morning with explosion! The 3 JO9 athletes started their trails on Vault and showed great confidence and aggression. They were ready to fight for their spot on team Alberta! MaClean and Inkster were awarded 6th place out of all Alberta competitors for their dynamics! Keep up the consistency ladies!
2nd event was the Uneven Bars. The athletes had a strong warm-up and really showed quality in their gymnastics. It was an event that really showed how much they have improved over the season. First up on Bars was Anna Inkster. She started Norfort off well with a hit routine that awarded her 6th place. MaClean, McCoy and Ponak showed improvements in their lines and technique but unfortunately could not perform to what they had hope to show the judges.
As the athletes now move to the balance beam they tried to focus in on this event and attack it with confidence. Their chances for making team were not over! All the athletes were in the zone and had an amazing warm up. MaClean was first up to show the judges what consistency looked like and she did just that! With amazing focus MacClean earned herself and 8th on beam and a personal best! Fantastic Job Ava! Inkster, McCoy and Ponak also showed great focus and determination. They had great moments throughout the routine but just could not stay glued to the beam on their acrobatic series. They did a great job recovering from the uneven bars and showed great fenice.
Last but not least was the floor exercise. An event meant to show power, grace and beauty. The girls were ready to show the crowd a performance! One major highlight from this event was Ashley Ponak’s amazing first pass and all around performance! Performing her double tuck salto for the first time in the beginning of the year. Ashley has gained much more accuracy landing this particular skill on her feet now that she has more experience. It was Ashley’s personal best! Earning her a 3rd place on Floor! Amazing Job Ashley! The rest of the JO9 Athletes performed with fire and as well elegance, all the athletes left it all on the floor for the trials.
As the stakes were high and only 7 spots were given to be apart of championships. Consistency was what brought Anna Inkster a place on team Alberta! Congratulations Anna!
